As a woman, I find it is often easier to make my way in the world by keeping my mouth shut. To simply grin and bare it when haters, well-meaning friends or co-workers say or do something insensitive.

With ‘Big Mouth’, I am all of it. The sass, the crass, the erudite and more than that aware. Aware of the language used to quiet me down. To remind me of what is, and most importantly, what isn’t being said.

I Am My Hair: JC Friday

LOCATION: Sky Garden Gallery, 150 Bay Street, PH9, Jersey City, NJ

I Am My Hair is an interactive art installation that explores identity through our relationship to hair. With each participant, the yardage grows, bit by bit. The rope, imbued the essence of each participant, becomes a common denominator amongst us all, HAIR.

September is a big month for me. I’m having a solo show, a series of talks and yarn wrapping sessions at Art House Productions in Jersey City. Big Mouth is a collection of one-sided conversations. As a woman, I find it is often easier to make my way in the world by keeping my mouth shut. To simply grin and bare it when haters, well-meaning friends or co-workers say or do something insensitive.

As a child, my father would say to me, “Better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.” So in keeping my mouth shut, I learned, to be seen, and selectively heard.

With ‘Big Mouth’, I am all of it. The sass, the crass, the erudite and more than that aware. Aware of the language used to quiet me down. To remind me of what is, and most importantly, what isn’t being said.

Repurposed: 4th Annual Juried Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: July 5- July 27, 2019

Location: Arthaus Projects; 140 W. 4th St. Williamsport, PA

“Repurposed” is a juried exhibition focused on the adaptive reuse of materials to create new art. Participating artists were asked to create an original piece of artwork that utilizes some sort of found object, or unusual recycled medium as the base for the piece. I used bottle caps.
