Fishing nets.
I buy retired authentic nylon commercial fishing nets for my work. Most nets get approximately 2 years of use before they lose integrity from being torn and repaired too many times.
I find the flexibility of the grid, fascinating. Everytime I look, i see something different in the lines.
Thank you to the many people in my life both near and far who collect randoms things for me. Opening a box and sorting through these treasers gives me great job. I appreciate every single one of of you.
This work is inspired by my self directed homeschool virtual artist residency with NOW Friends in Nairobi Kenya. Last summer when Covid preventing me from traveling to Nairobi, I drilled holes in thousands of bottle caps instead.
And researched Kenyan artists online and watched tons of YT videos about Masai Mura to make this Pinterest board which has lead to this new body of work using recycled bottle caps.
