Participating Artists:

Luis Alves: Luis Alves’s photo collages utilizes appropriated imagery from magazines, to incite dialogue on the role the media plays in the shaping of our lives. Each collage is hand-manipulated with the goal of transformation as a way of commenting on, satirizing or criticizing the source material. Website

Theda Sandiford: Theda Sandiford: Using internal conflict and diverse recycled materials as a starting point she constructs a mixed media mask to protect herself from fear. What may start off as an ugly statement about herself, is in the end transformed into something beautiful. Theda photographs her process and then digitally manipulate these images to extend the narrative.

Leslie Sheryl: Leslie Sheryll’s photo based collages start with appropriated 19th century tintypes which she scans and digitally manipulates. Sheryll then incorporate historical facts, imagery, personal experience and an infusion of fantasy to create a new narrative about women Website

Brad Terhune: Brad Terhune is forever seeking out new materials to work with leads to changes in style and subject. Terhune looks to create a weird, surreal world, and have been influenced by early twentieth century art movements that embraced and explored collage, while continuing to explore this vibrant medium in the contemporary arena. “Body Anomaly: Arts Unbound” includes six woman artists who each have a physical disability, a body glitch. Each reveals a complex relationship to their physical anomaly through their art; living with physical limitations, physical and emotional pain, body shape and image differences, and discrimination. Each artist examines how to work with, adapt to, and negotiate their unique physical anomaly, visible or – as for four of the artists – invisible, informs their art making.

Please join me for the Opening reception October 18 from 6-8pm. The show runs through March 16, 2019.

Garden Level Gallery Open For Studio Visits

I have been driving around Jersey City looking up old buildings on Zillow for 4 years reciting the words, “it would be nice to have a my own gallery for my work…”

Well that day has finally come. In January, I took over the lease at _gaia and have been hard at work decluttering the studio and overhauling the space to accommodate larger art shows. Like Garden Level Gallery on Facebook.

Our first show is Hoboken Arts’ “New Works” for JCFriday’s on March 2, 2018. The opening is 7:00pm-9:00pm. Please come.

Once Spring arrives, McCarty plans to get busy in the garden. given the Pinterest board action i’ve seen, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. The garden oasis is going to be awesome.

DM if you would like to schedule a studio, playlist and wine pairing visit. I’d love to host you.

315 3rd Street, Jersey City NJ, between Cole & Monmouth Streets.

From NYC: take Path Train to Grove St stop and walk up Newark Avenue, Rt on Cole Street, Lt on 3rd Street to 315 3rd Street.

Step down to the Garden Level.
