The original art was made in response to being asked to “Dim my Light” so that “less dynamic people” would not be threatened by me. Reimagined as a boot, this work of art is now a potent reminder to Always Be You, No Matter What.

Digital Big Mouths- New Metallic Photo Prints

My status as “other” does not always grant the luxury to say what is truly there for me, to correct a slight or present an alternative point of view. I have to be vigilantly self aware, and know the right time to speak up or how to frame my words so that they can be received in the best possible light. Sharing my uncensored opinion can quickly get me labeled as being “too big in a room” or worse an “Angry Black Woman”. When that happens, full stop. My opinion is dismissed outright. Somewhere along the way, I’ve even stopped correcting people who mispronounce my name. It’s Thee-duh if you are interested.

11″x14″ print in frame, 20″x16″ total size.

TIME: 1:00pm-4:00pm
LOCATION: Watchung Arts Center 18 Stirling Rd, Watchung, NJ

The show runs September 3rd through September 28th. Drawing from a series of Salons coordinated by Pro Arts Jersey City, Salon 2018 presents the culmination of a series of meetings by groups of artists over a nine-month period. Seeking to inspire community, encourage cross-disciplinary learning and deliver an opportunity for professional artistic development, Pro Arts gave each group the freedom to present their collective vision for this show. With 27 participating artists divided into 4 salon groups (determined by zip code rather than medium), groups worked collaboratively, consulting with a Curatorial Advisor twice throughout the collaboration period to engage in conversations about development of their work.

Photo Series: This Is How I Do Vacation Photos

Three images from my 2016 St. Vincent and the Grenadines sailing vacation are in this group exhibition featuring photographic work displayed in series.

“Photo /Series” @ Rotunda Gallery, Jersey City Hall

LOCATION: Rotunda Gallery; 280 Grove St, Jersey City, NJ 07302

“Photo / Series”  runs July 6-31, opening reception Tuesday July 10.

I was sleeping onboard an anchored sailboat in St. Vincent & The Grenadines when a gaggle of birds woke me into a funk. I came topside, to shoe away the birds and realized what the fuss was all about. This amazing sunrise. Thanks to the birds and my iPhone, this is how I do vacation photos.
