I LOVE Wonder Woman. I grew up watching the Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman and wanted to be a bad ass too. After seeing Patty Jenkins’s Wonder Woman in Theaters, I knew I had to pattern my next Super Selfie after Wonder Woman

Psykhe

Medium: Fine Art Print
Psyche was the goddess of the soul and the wife of Eros god of love.
She was once a mortal princess whose beauty earned the ire of Aphrodite when men began turning their worship away from the goddess towards the girl. Aphrodite commanded Eros make Psykhe fall in love with the most hideous of men but the god instead fell in love and carried her off to a hidden palace. Eros hid his true identity and told Psykhe she must never gaze upon his face. Her jealous sisters, however, tricked her into disobeying and the angry god forsook her. Psykhe searched the world for her lost love and eventually came into the service of Aphrodite. The goddess commanded her perform a series of seemingly impossible tasks which culminated in a journey to the Underworld. Psykhe was afterwards reunited with Eros and the couple were married in a ceremony attended by all the gods.

ART BENDER 2018: MAY 5-6, and PARTY MAY 11

Each year I participate in Art Bender, a 24 hour marathon of art making to raise money for the programs at Arts Unbound.

The goal this year is ambitious. We hope to raise $50,000 and we need your help! There are lots of ways to participate.

You can help spread the word by telling your friends about ArtBender, join the 12-hour art-making marathon at Arts Unbound’s gallery on May 5, attend or host an ArtBender party, help raise funds, or attend the silent auction on May 11. And most important, make time that weekend to celebrate your creativity!

Making as Thinking: Curator Talk

CURATOR TALK

Sunday, March 18, 2018, 2-5pm

Talk starts at 2:30pm

Curator Todd Lambrix, “As an artist and a professor of fine arts, I am often at odds that art-making begins with the thought and ends with the work. My practice flows in the opposite direction and I am often drawn to works in which the concept grows from the making. As I sorted through the member registry I was continually drawn towards pieces that had this kind of physicality to them. They had a direct decisiveness that was at the same time searching for an answer. As I chose them I could almost see the process or feel the emotion propelling the making. This making seems to function as both the process and the thinking and the resulting works have a layered, open flexibility to them. For me, the notion of making as thinking suggests we are working through a problem rather than illustrating an idea. It suggests we are not sure of exactly where we stand.”

Participating artists:
Alaine Becker, Mona Brody, Kathy Cantwell, Nora Chavooshian, RitaMarie Cimini, Lorraine Deprospo, Alison Golder, Alyce Gottesman, Sheila Grabarsky, Beth Heit, Linda Brooks Hirshman, Michelle Kurlan, Wendy Letven, Susan Lisbin, Maria Lupo, Madalyn Marcus, Natalya Tali Margolin, Theda Sandiford, Katie Truk, Becky Yazdan.

Garden Level Gallery Open For Studio Visits

I have been driving around Jersey City looking up old buildings on Zillow for 4 years reciting the words, “it would be nice to have a my own gallery for my work…”

Well that day has finally come. In January, I took over the lease at _gaia and have been hard at work decluttering the studio and overhauling the space to accommodate larger art shows. Like Garden Level Gallery on Facebook.

Our first show is Hoboken Arts’ “New Works” for JCFriday’s on March 2, 2018. The opening is 7:00pm-9:00pm. Please come.

Once Spring arrives, McCarty plans to get busy in the garden. given the Pinterest board action i’ve seen, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. The garden oasis is going to be awesome.

DM if you would like to schedule a studio, playlist and wine pairing visit. I’d love to host you.
